Sunrise Over Punta Cana

I drug my hungover ass out of bed and trudged down to the beach with my trusty Leica to try and catch a sunrise while on vacation. It was the kind of “all-inclusive syrupy mess” hangovers. At first, I thought it was too cloudy, as it was still rather dark out. As the light started to fill the morning sky, I was happy to see just a spread of clouds, mostly in the distance. I sat on one of those massage tables on the beach and waited, still in a haze of my own. It was worth the effort! I quickly found a chair on the beach for a well deserved nap.

Sunrise is coming at 7:15AM due to the recent daylight savings switch. That means I get to capture some great sunrises without getting up soooo early on a weekend. I took Sunday to enjoy the cool beach and catch a beautiful show. Sported the Air Max 1 Quickstrikes for the occasion. More to come!

Mamá de Banano

Mamá de Banano is the literal translation of my drink of choice while in Punta Cana (translated “fuzz tip” ha!), Banana Mama. In the 5 day stay, I must have consumed over 100 of these things. No swim-up bar, night show waitress, or club bartender could slow me down. Even with all the syrup dosed liquor binges, I managed to snap a few pictures.

The sunrise was a massive bright orange that morning, with a great deal of overhead clouds. They made from some great rays and reflections on the water.

This is quite possibly my favorite picture that I took. Sunset over the main pool at our hotel.
Sunset Pool

This was from the first sunrise, and the beams of light blocked by the clouds left for an interesting capture, lighting up half of a cloud.

These were flying back and forth all day.

The main drag taking you from the beach to the pool and rooms. Luckily our room wasn’t a terribly long walk from either.

Clouds at sunrise, caught the peachy beams through dawn.

This was pretty much my position each and every morning, following a nice breakfast of course. Each day went like this: wake up (maybe sunrise and photos), catch the breakfast buffet, go back to the room and throw on your trunks, head to the beach until lunch (1ish), hit up lunch, find a place by the pool (near the swim up bar if possible), pack it in around 5, back to the room for a nap, meet for dinner around 7:30, hit the lobby bar, hit the club, hit the sack. Wake up and do it again. What a way to live!

Sunrise in Paradise

Woke up pretty early one morning and headed to the beach for sunrise. These pictures do the true beauty no justice. This was well worth the sacrificed sleep.

Got home from the gym this morning and was greeted by one of the prettiest sunrises in some time. Starts the day off right. Enjoy!

This Canyon is Grand

Continuing with the theme of trips from the past, here are some pictures from our trip to Grand Canyon. It is unbelievable the feeling that comes over you when you see just how massive the canyon is for the first time. It almost looked surreal, like a group of people holding up a huge painting in the background for the world to see.

We were fortunate enough to make the trek to the south (I think?) rim for sunrise over the lip. I have never seen the sky take on so many beautiful colors in such a short period of time. We even got to experience a mule deer playing chicken with us in the middle of the road. It won, we waited for it to move along. It eventually did. We then took a drive to Red Rocks and then headed back to Phoenix. More pictures in my flickr account so check them out! All pictures were taken with my point and shoot.
