New Balance Done Your Way

Filed under: Uncategorized — brick @ 7:00 pm

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love travel, photography, and sneakers and I try and intermingle all three when possible.

I have been rather annoyed at the recent practices of Nike with their degrading quality and lackluster materials. This ultimately drove me to New Balance. Now, NB certainly has their fair share of quality and shape issues with their newer retro models, but there are a few standouts out of the NB line that they nailed, the 574 being one of them. The 574 is hand crafted in the USA with top notch materials and workmanship. You can go and order a pair here.

My first two pair of customized New Balance 574s.

My family and I are approaching a huge milestone in life. My company is moving us from our home base in Atlanta to spend 12+ months in Singapore, starting this summer. We are both excited by the possibilities and a bit worried about the logistics and everything that comes with relocating to the other side of the world…with a 4 month old. Needless to say, we have lots of change coming but change is good and it keeps things fresh.

To commemorate our move to Singapore, I had ATL and SIN (the airport codes for Atlanta and Singapore) stitched onto the heel.

With these strapped to my feet, I can take on anything the world throws at us! Remember, keep smiling.

Was able to hit up China for the first time in February. Went a few days early with some friends from work to explore and get a feel for Shanghai. Our hotel was ridiculous. JW Marriott Tomorrow Square.

We walked down the street from the hotel to the square and headed into the History Museum.

From Nanjing, walked down to the river to check out The Bund. Impressive skyline.

A local friend took us to a tourist area about 90 minutes out of the city called Zhouzhuang. It had a bunch of canals and a plethora of tourist shops, food stands, and historic artifacts.

There were about as many fish in this pond as there are people in China. They were hungry.

More to come from the China trip, once I pile through these pictures!

The Beastiest

While cruising around NYC, we stumbled upon some commotion that turned out to be a jam session led by Mike D of the Beastie Boys. He was pretty cool, chatted us up, and took a bunch of pictures for everyone there.

Lucy and I went to Buffalo for the services and we were greeted with a massive snow/wind storm. We got about 2 feet of snow with 50-60mph winds. The temperature was in the teens without the wind chill. Lucy was much more keen on going out to play, I just sat in the house and watched. It was fun to see the snow fall but I am thrilled to be back in decent weather. After the storm rolled through, we had some pretty blue skies with sunshine….and 15 degrees. I remember getting my car washed in this weather back in the day. If the sun was out, wash the car. It doesn’t happen often.

Lucy certainly doesn’t mess around when she hits the elements.

This little guy took advantage of a fallen chair and hunkered down during the storm. He literally stayed there for 2 days until we scared him away with a plate of carrots. The cave definitely protected him from the high winds.

Pool Party!

Filed under: Uncategorized — brick @ 5:38 pm

Hit up Sunset Beach on Saturday with Frank, Erin, and the girls to visit my Mom for her Birthday. Happy Birthday Mom! We loaded up and headed over to the pool in my parents neighborhood for some sun and relaxation. Spending time with family at the pool, this is what summer is all about!
